Over the past 5 years, we have made significant improvements in how the State of Illinois operates and how it serves people. We have provided healthcare to 750,000 more men, women, children, seniors, and veterans. We have raised the minimum wage twice. And we have invested record amounts of money in education.
In the coming year, we will make sure we continue our successes, but we also must confront the fiscal challenges we are being dealt. The economy has slowed, and families are facing hard times. The budget I am proposing includes a comprehensive economic stimulus package that will spur economic growth, create jobs, and protect families:
- Illinois Works – Infrastructure and jobs plan
- Illinois Child Tax Credit – Doubling the federal economic stimulus payments for children
- Illinois Business Tax Cut – Allowing for investment and job stability
We will also continue our focus on healthcare and education, and focus on responsible spending and a balanced budget.
It is time to strengthen our economy. It is time to get to work.
